URN & FLOWERS GRILLEWORK

IRON ART WALL

WALL IRON ART PROJECTS..TAKING THE BEAUTY OF A PAINTING OR A STUNNING ART PRINT AND TRANSFERRING THAT VISUAL EXPRESSION FROM CANVAS INTO AN IRON SCULPTURE IS A CHALLENGE IN DETAIL.

THIS URN & FLOWERS PIECE ( STILL IN THE BUILDING STAGE) IS COMPLETELY ORGINAL, BUT I MUST ADMIT THAT IF IT WASNT FOR BEING EXPOSED TO SOME VERY BEAUTIFUL PAINTINGS IN THAT THEME, THE INSPIRATION FOR THIS PIECE WOULD HAVE NEVER SETFORTH INTO A CREATIVE IDEA.

IRON ART WALL

I WANTED TO MAKE SOMETHING WITH A DELICATE VIEW, BUT STRONG IN STRUCTURE, A METAL MURAL OF SORTS. MATERIALS...A MIXTURE OF 1/8 INCH THICK MILD STEEL IN VARIOUS SIZES OF FLAT BAR, ROUND AND SQUARE ROD.

THE FRAME ITSELF IS A BASIC RECTANGULAR SHAPE OF A PICTURE FRAME IN 2 INCH FLAT BAR. THE URN IS MADE UP OF CURVED FLAT BAR WITH SOME ARROW SHAPED LEAF WORK IN THE CENTER. 1/8 INCH SQUARE ROD PROVIDES THE ENDING RADIUS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS URN.

DESIGN IDEA

WALL IRON ART

WELL, THIS IS FINALLY WHAT I DECIDED ON, HAVING THE URN ITSELF ALREADY COMPLETED REALLY AIDED IN THE CREATION OF THIS ABOVE DESIGN. THE FOCUS WAS TO COME UP WITH SOME FLORAL CHARACTERS THAT ARE GENUINE AND ORIGINAL, SOMETHING THAT MAKES THE ORNAMENTATION UNIQUE AND SPECIAL. YOU MIGHT NOTICE THAT EACH BRANCH (EXCEPT THE LEAFWORK) HAS A DIFFERENT SHAPED FLOWER SPROUTING FROM IT, OFFERING SOME RARE VARIETY TO THIS BOTANICAL IRON SCULPTURE.

FABRICATING DETAILS ~ THE FIRST STEP IS ATTACHING THE BRANCHES AND LEAFWORK, MAKING SURE ALL THE CURVES AND BENDS ARE BALANCED AND FLOWING TOGETHER, THIS CREATES THE STRUCTURE AND SPACE NEEDED FOR THE ADDITION OF THE INDIVIDUAL FLOWERS.

THE NEXT STEP IS TO FABRICATE THE FLOWER WORK, FOR THIS SCULPTURE THE PLAN IS TO USE A MIXTURE OF STEEL ROD AND SHEETMETAL BLENDED TOGETHER TO FORM THESE METAL FLOWERS, THIS IS THE PART OF THE PROJECT WHERE MOST OF THE ATTENTION TO DETAIL IS INVOLVED SINCE THE GOAL IS THE "RARITY" APPERANCE OF THESE FLORAL ORNAMENTS, MINIMAL WELDING AND GRINDING ON THESE FLORAL ORNAMENTS WILL AID IN THAT DETAILED SHARP APPEREANCE.

ONCE THE FLOWERS ARE ADDED TO THE BRANCHES, AGAIN LIGHT WELDING AND GRINDING ARE PERFORMED, THIS WILL REDUCE THE DAMAGE (CUTS) TO THE METAL THAT OFTEN GRINDING TOOLS PRODUCE WHEN APPLIED WITH EXCESSIVE PRESSURE.

THE LAST STEP AFTER THE WELDING AND GRINDING IS COMPLETED, INVOLVES HAND SANDING OF THE ENTIRE PIECE, NOTHING IS MORE PRECISE AND DELICATE THAN A HAND AND SOME ELBOW GREASE.

PAINT..PAINT..PAINT, NOT MY FAVORITE AREA ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO DECIDING ON COLORS, SO FOR THIS WALL IRON ART PROJECT IN QUESTION, THE STANDARD FLAT BLACK WILL BE USED FOR THE PRIMARY BASECOAT, BUT TO MAKE THE PIECE STAND OUT A LITTLE BETTER A LIGHT VARIETY OF COLORS WILL BE BLENDED ON THE ENDS OF THE FLORAL AND LEAFWORK FOR SOME HIGHLIGHT.

I HOPE TO BE FINISHED WITH THIS PIECE BEFORE AUGUST, I CERTAINLY WILL POST SOME PICTURES OF THE FINISHED WORK ON THE GALLERY PAGE.
